Garden Equipment
Garden décor is a must have for the homeowner trying to make the best of their home. Home improvement and gardening programmes have resulted in people taking more care of their personal spaces and more aware of a sense of style. Time was when the garden was just a front or back yard where the kids could play and if the weather was good you might barbecue some hamburgers. These days some designers speak of the garden as another room, an extension of your inside space. The result of this is that it is no longer enough to have a well cut lawn and some bright and pretty plants – contemporary gardens have to be well designed and this has sparked an ongoing interest in garden décor.
Garden décor starts with the right plants and neat lawn. Some people prefer concrete in a small yard with their plants in pots, others like some decking which is good when you have a barbecue, or just want to sit outside with a drink. Garden furniture is also important and people go to great lengths to the table and chairs that are just right for them. Garden lighting may also be important. Once all these are in place then people start on the rest of the garden décor.
Many people like to have statues in their garden – these can be big or small and may range from dwarves and fairies to life size statues of people and angels. There are all kinds of garden ornaments from flowers and butterflies to cast iron sculptures. There are plenty of lawn ornaments around and some people like to have a concrete dog statue there. Garden sculptures are also becoming popular and somewhere like the walker centre will have exhibits of some of these. Rather than the traditional garden path there is now a growing interest in having stepping stones across the lawn – rather than confining them to a pond. Garden gnomes have always been popular and you can see these in all shapes and sizes in people’s yards and gardens.
With the precarious nature of the weather these days there is a growing interest in weather vanes and dials. Taste in garden décor is constantly changing but an evergreen favorite must be the sundial which comes in many different sizes and designs. Thermometers are useful in the garden and you will often see them near plants such tomatoes – like sundials these perform a function as well as providing décor for the garden. For a long time wind chimes have been a favorite in certain parts of the home and we are now seeing them advertised as garden décor. Mailboxes and flagpoles are a feature of many gardens and you can now see these in a variety of shapes and styles. What a person chooses as part of their garden décor is very much a personal choice, so styles will vary from one garden to another.
