Garden Statues

Garden statues are becoming an integral part of many people’s garden – as the number of people looking to make the outside of their home an extension of the inside increases. Garden designers tend to like the use of statuary in the garden and garden statues certainly have a long history and many people believe that garden statues give a garden its distinctive look.

If you search the internet, look through magazines or stroll down to your local gardening store you will find a constant feature is garden statuary and its uses. Some people will start out with one garden statue and then increase this until they have a number of them marking out different areas of the garden. Those people who are trying to give their garden a really different look might be interested in oriental garden statues. These are good in bigger gardens where there may also be a small pagoda. Many people however will stick to an ordinary cement garden statue.

People who are moving house often want to make the whole place look good so that they will get the best price possible. In these cases garden décor, statuary and plants may be important as a gardens can make or break the sale of a house. The popularity of certain new age philosophies and of books like the Harry Potter series has raised interest in this area. Fairy garden statues are just one example of this trend. Historically people had stone garden statues, this became very popular in Italy and eventually spread to the rest of the Western world. Nowadays people are more likely to have cement garden statues as these are much more economical to produce. In some gardens where people have an oriental theme they may also have a large Buddha statue. Garden décor is very much an individual thing and where one person might have a red bird statue for garden ornamentation, someone else might find it hideous.

Some people treat their garden statues as furniture. Wholesale garden depots will often display statues as part of the furniture of a garden setting – it is not unusual in these places to see a praying cherub garden statue posed by a garden table. Stone and concrete are the most usual form of statuary but resin garden statues are also gaining popularity. Birds are a favorite form of garden ornamentation and some farmyards are now sporting a rooster garden statue.
